Dental Exam and Cleaning

Dental Exam and Cleaning in Woonsocket

Regularly scheduled dental cleanings and exams are vital to maintaining your oral health while preventing future complications.

Dental cleanings performed by a member of our hygiene team will remove bacteria, tartar buildup and plaque from the surfaces of your teeth as well as between your teeth and under your gums. Additionally, dental cleanings include a polishing which allows for a nice shine when you leave your appointment and a fluoride treatment (if you accept it) which will aid in the prevention of tooth decay. Often fluoride treatment is covered for children by insurance companies, however we offer fluoride treatment to all patients no matter their age. Offering fluoride at all ages allows for our team to help in the prevention of cavities for all patients.

Our office provides cleanings for different ages and conditions including child prophylaxis, adult prophylaxis, and periodontal maintenance. A child prophylaxis (prophy) is a dental cleaning that removes plaque and tartar build-up aiding in the prevention of cavities and gum disease. At a child prophy appointment a member of our hygiene team will ensure your child is comfortable in the dental chair/office while teaching them how to brush and floss by demonstrating at home practices. Ideally a child should see a dentist around the time their first tooth appears in the mouth. These appointments are recommended every six months (twice a year) unless otherwise advised by a member of our hygiene team.

An adult prophy is a routine dental cleaning that treats an individual with healthy stable oral health and is recommended every six months (twice a year). An adult prophy begins for patients ages 14 and older. During these appointments a member of our hygiene team will take any necessary x-rays, intraoral photos and offer a yearly oral cancer screening. At least once a year, one of the doctors will perform a periodic exam where you may ask any questions, present any concerns where the hygienist and doctor is able to disclose their findings. A member of our hygiene team will clean your teeth and gums with their instruments and finally your teeth will be polished. You will walk out of your routine cleaning with a shiny smile and a professionally cleaned mouth.
